  Celebration of the Topping Out of the Dallas High Five Interchange and Opening of the Tallest Ramp

Location: Ramp from eastbound LBJ freeway to northbound North Central Expressway
Height: Upon completion of the Interchange, this ramp will soar 120 feet above Central Expressway. (Central will be below grade.)
Schedule: Groundbreaking of the Project: January 2, 2002
Scheduled completion: January 2007
Estimate actual completion: Mid 2006
Current Timing: 23-1/2 months into the Program (38% of the contract time), we are 48% complete.

Bridge structures - of the 710 total columns, 481 or 68% are complete; of the 409 total caps, 268 or 66% are complete; of the 163,619 linear feet total of beams, 90,685 linear feet or 55% have been set and of the 47 acres of bridge decking, 20 acres or 43% has been done

Regarding direct connection ramps
  • Today December 18 - open direct connection ramp from eastbound LBJ Freeway to northbound NCE; eliminate existing left exit ramp.
     
  • Week of December 29 - close existing westbound LBJ left exit ramp to southbound NCE for about three months; detour ramp traffic to Hillcrest Road or Midpark Road.
     
  • January 2004 - shift all eastbound LBJ main freeway traffic up on top next to westbound LBJ traffic.
     
  • January 2004 - close southbound NCE exit ramp to Forest Lane/Coit Road.
  • April 2004 - open direct connection ramp from eastbound LBJ Freeway to southbound NCE.
     
  • April 2004 - open direct connection ramp from westbound LBJ Freeway to southbound NCE.
     
  • April 2004 - open direct connection ramp from westbound LBJ Freeway to northbound NCE.
     
  • May 2004 - open southbound NCE temporary exit ramp to Forest Lane/Coit Road.
     
  • By September 2004 - all direct connection ramps completed.
